Our Story

Built from a community’s resolve to prepare, protect, and serve.

Our Story and Mission

The Altadena Fire Brigade grew from the devastation of the Eaton Fire and from a simple belief: the people who call Altadena home should have a meaningful role in making their community safer and more resilient to wildfire.

In the aftermath of the fire, local residents and community members began discussing how Altadena could be better prepared for the next major emergency. Those conversations developed into an organized effort focused on wildfire prevention, mitigation, preparedness, professional training, and community service.

As the idea grew, so did its mission. The vision became more than helping the community recover. It became an effort to build a permanent, community-based volunteer organization capable of training qualified wildland firefighters, supporting wildfire mitigation projects, educating residents, and developing the ability to assist established public-safety agencies during emergencies.

Today, the Altadena Fire Brigade is building that foundation by recruiting and training personnel, developing professional operating standards, acquiring equipment, establishing a permanent presence in Altadena, and forming relationships with community organizations, government leaders, land managers, and fire-service partners.

Our mission is to protect and strengthen Altadena before, during, and after wildfire emergencies. We recruit, train, and equip community members to recognized fire-service standards while building the partnerships and operational framework needed to support a safe, professional, and coordinated wildfire response.

The Eaton Fire is part of Altadena’s history that can never be undone. Our purpose is to ensure that what grew from it contributes to a safer, stronger, and more resilient future.

Stand with Altadena.

Help build a stronger, more prepared community.
